Review: Beach Hotel Singapore

Looking for budget accommodation in Singapore is a little bit tricky. Especially if you are traveling with family who wants to have a little bit privacy, not like a guesthouse or backpackers hostel. Accommodation in Singapore are very expensive compared to Indonesia. Hostel in Singapore usually has the same price like 3 stars hotel in Indonesia.

Fortunately I found this 2 stars hotel named Beach Hotel located in Beach Road, obviously. I booked 1 double bed room for 2 nights in Traveloka for about 1,5millions Rupiahs, 40 days before the stay. The sooner you book the place, the better hotel and price you can get. The room is well-equipped with TV, microwave, kettle, and fridge. Wifi connection and shower water heater were working perfectly. I have no complain at all regarding its facilities.

The location is very strategic just 5 minutes walking distance to Bugis MRT and many bus stops around. We could walk to National Library, Bras Basah, Bugis Junction, Bugis Street, Arab Street and Kampong Glam. There is small convenience store nearby and Subway restaurant across the building, yay! (Can someone bring Subway to Jakarta, please?) The hotel is located on the second floor of the building. On the first floor there is a Chinese restaurant. The building is in the corner of Beach Road and Liang Seah Street where the street at night becomes packed with traditional foods stalls. Maybe that's one of the drawbacks of this place, it could get crowded in the nights especially in the weekends. However we were not annoyed with the noise because we were so tired of walking all day and could sleep very well. What amazed me was the street becomes really clean in the morning like there was nothing happened at night.

The staff in receptionist desk was a Philippine lady and I think she's friendly but we did not talk too much because we knew the ways around. They provided many Singapore brochures for tourists on the main entrance near the elevator. They did not have in-house cafe or restaurant, so the room price did not come with breakfast. I think that is not a big problem because then you have a reason to explore Singaporean local breakfast/brunch outside which is more tempting than hotel foods.

In conclusion, this budget hotel has a good location, great price and fully equipped facilities inside the room. It has only 33 rooms so better to book earlier. Overall we had a good stay in Beach Hotel, and perhaps would come back there again next time we go to Singapore.

Jeju Island in 3 Days

Jeju Island, the Hawaii of Korea, where couples usually go for honeymoon, and the place of many UNESCO Nature Heritage sites, is really beautiful and romantic. Some people say we need to spend at least 1 week to explore and experience the most of this island, but in my opinion 3 days are enough. Trust me, many places in Jeju only look good in advertisement, they're good at selling it. There are no interesting places in the North and West part of Jeju Island, so you can focus on East and South. East and South parts are amazingly naturally beautiful! Here's the itinerary I recommend.

Day-1: East of Jeju Island

Manjanggul / Manjang Cave
Spending time: 30-45 minutes
Hallasan, located in the middle of Jeju Island is the only volcanic mountain in Korea. It created several small volcanic mountains throughout Jeju Island, called Oreum in Korean. One of the biggest Oreum is Geomun Oreum, famous with its large lava tube system and designated as a UNESCO Natural Heritage site. It has few l…

Review: Homestay Cahaya Sikunir Dieng

Transportation in Jeju Island

These are some remarks regarding public transportation in Jeju.
Buses in Jeju Island accept Seoul's t-money card. You can buy and top-up it in convenience store, like GS25 and Family Mart.City buses normally charge 1000won for cash, or 950won for t-money card. If you pay by card, tap it to the machine when you aboard and when you alight. If you transit between 2 buses during a certain times, fee for the next bus can be 0won, or free.Intercity buses vary depends on the distance, usually between 1000-3000won. There's no different fee paying with cash or card. When you aboard the bus, tell the driver about your destination, he will tell you how much it is, and you have to pay there directly. If you pay by card, no need to tap it again when you get off. There are 2 bus terminals in Seogwipo city. The main bus terminal is in the south-east of downtown, near the Jeongbang Waterfall, which is also the old one. The second one is to the right of the E-mart in front of the World Cup Stad…
